The profession of Nursing has a very high demand, and despite the long hours of work that goes along with it many people still aspire to get a nursing position. People in the nursing career field have alot of responsibility, as they are caring for and dealing with patients firsthand that need their most sincere attention.
During the application process into this particular career field, Health care providers and Hospitals often make their way though applicants focusing on three main areas.
The first area is orientation and training; letting them figure out what the qualifications of the applicant are. For you to be successful in this regard you must be able to competently discuss your training and hands-on experience with the interviewer. Also you should be able to dicuss and answer questions regarding effectiveness, governance and perception of medical terms.
The interviewer will probably also want to know what kind of working environment in which you will be able to work in. Some of the questions asked maybe inquiring about your flexibility on scheduled shifts, nurse to patient ratio, and also about the requirement of on-call duties.
The interviewer may ask additional questions to figure out what other core competencies you hold, along with previous work experience, your personality, and what kind of motivation and coping skills you process.
Some potential questions that may be asked regarding your core competencies, maybe to test your time management and team management skills. They will also probably want to check in your communication skills and your patient care abilities. This being said it is ideal that nurses have the ability to project good communication and interpersonal skills. Questions asked to find out about your personality, motivation and coping skills will most likely used to find out what the applicants personal reasons are for becoming a nurse.
Depending on the health care facility they may ask a series of other questions that may become more in-depth. Also there will probably be questions that require opinionated answers.
Alright, now lets take a look at thing you can do to prepare yourself for the interview. One of the first things you can and should do to prepare is to take sometime to familiarize yourself with the potential employer. Try to learn as much as you can about the companies mission and their future goals. Also prepare at least two questions for the the interviewer, this is a sign that you are interested. Also keep in mind that the interviewer is not just listening to your answers, but is also looking and paying attention to your gestures, poise, and confidence among others.
Most importantly maintain a positive attitude, along with eye contact during the interview. Also try to relax and treat the interview as just another conversation with someone you know and feel comfortable talking to. Other than this just remember to dress appropriately and Good Luck!
